Herd Health Management
It has been established that in manure-herd farming, traumatism is significantly higher compared to individual animal husbandry, with many animals subject to traumatism or suffering from one or more limb diseases. Along with infertility and mastitis, herd traumatism, hoof pathology, resp. lameness is one of the most pressing problems that cause huge economic losses. Initially, the main groups of diseases of the limbs and especially of the hooves are presented schematically. It describes in detail the methodology and the scale for assessing the health of the limbs, which is applied to each animal. The arithmetic means results represent the general health status of the herd. The ways, the sequence and the algorithm of the detection and establishment of the specific factors for each farm, leading to traumatism and diseases of the limbs and hooves, as well as the necessary steps to reduce the percentage of this type of pathology in the farm, are considered.
Module of Obstetrics (diseases of small animals, diseases of equids, diseases of farm animals)
The course in Obstetrics (Productive animals, Equines, Small animals) aims to give students the necessary knowledge of obstetric and gynecological problems in productive animals, quidae and animals for company. The course is divided into three sections: “Obstetrics and Gynecology of Productive Animals”, “Obstetrics and Gynecology of Equidae” and “Obstetrics and Gynecology of Animals for Company”. The section “Obstetrics and Gynecology of Productive Animals” addresses questions about the processes of normal birth in animals, as well as possible problems that may occur. The various methods of obstetric assistent, the technique of implementation and the possible complications are discussed in depth. Attention is paid to the postpartum period and the diseases that can be diagnosed during it. Obstetrics, Reproduction and Reproductive Disorders
The course on “Obstetrics, Reproduction and Reproductive Disorders” aims to give the students the necessary knowledge about the bases of breeding process in animals and with the reproduction processes and the possibilities for correction of reproductive disorders. The course is divided into two sections “Obstetrics” and “Reproduction and Reproductive Disorders”. The section “Obstetrics” deals with the physiological basis of reproduction in farm animals, the physiological and pathological features of pregnancy in farm animals. The aim is to provide the students with the necessary theoretical knowledge in the field of physiological and pathological processes occurring in the body of the female animals during the sex cycle and the ovulation, during the period of insemination, fertilization and pregnancy. The establishment of breeding potential and the diagnosis of diseases of the reproductive organs of the male animals is no less important than the evaluation of the reproductive status of the female animals. The severely reduced number of bulls and their concentration in small artificial insemination centers requires systematic control of the state of the genital organs in order to diagnose the diseases in a timely manner and to properly administer the therapy. For this purpose, the section “Reproduction and Reproductive Disorders” gives the prospective veterinarian the opportunity to master and serve competently with the various clinical and laboratory methods of testing applied to males animals, which in all specific cases would allow him to be accurate and timely in diagnosis.Students are introduced to various assisted reproduction options including artificial insemination, embryo transfer, and some more. Issues related to artificial insemination in farm animals are mainly dealt with, which aims to give students the theoretical and practical knowledge in this field. One third of the exercises are held in farms and at the artificial insemination center.
