History: The Department of Forest Management was established in 1927 by Prof. Temelko Ivanchev, who became its first head.

During the period 1927-1974 the following professors have been working in the Department: Acad. Petko Petkov, Prof. Iliya Mihailov, Prof. Atanas Ganchev, Prof. Hristo Sirakov, Prof. Alexander Iliev, Prof. Ivan Mihov, Prof. Evgeni Dimitrov.

On 02/01/1974 the Department was merged with the Department of Geodesy. Other former members of the Department are Prof. Yurdan Duhovnikov, Prof. Mikhail Venedikov, Prof. Sava Ribarov, Prof. Yosif Zhelyazkov, Assoc. Prof. George Dimitrov and Assist. Prof. Hristo Chemshirov, PhD.

History

The Department “Economics and Management of Resources and Nature Use” began under the name “Economics, Organization and Planning” and was established in 1950 at the Faculty of Forestry of the Agricultural Academy. The first head of the department from 1950 to 1964 was Prof. Yuli Mihailov. In 1955 he published the first textbook on “Forestry Economics” and in 1962 the first textbook on “Economics, Organization and Planning of Green Building”, marking the beginning of the first economically based publications for the benefit of the training and practice of forestry and greening of settlements in Bulgaria.

During the period up to 1995, the heads of the Department of Economics, Organization and Management, renamed from the Department of Economics, Organization and Planning, were:
– Prof. Dr. Hristo Sirakov (1965–1987);
– Prof. Dr. Penyu Karadochev (1988–1990);
– Prof. Dr. Georgi Puhalev (1990–1993);
– Assoc. Dr. Nikola Stoyanov (1993–1995).

In 1995, the Department of Economics, Organization, Management and Social Sciences was established at the Faculty of Forestry. With the creation of FSU at LTU in 1995, the Department of Economics, Organization, Management and Social Sciences was divided and three departments were created at FSU: Department of Economics and Management, Department of Organization and Planning and Department of Humanities .

Since October 1995, Prof. Dr. Georgi Puhalev, and for the head of the “Organization and Planning” department at the FSU – Assoc. Dr. Nikola Stoyanov. In the period 1995-1997, the “Humanities” department was co-chaired by Prof. Ph.D. Georgi Puhalev. In 1997, it was renamed the “Economics” department headed by Assoc. Dr. Nikolay Stoenchev.

During the period 2000–2019, the heads of the “Management of resources and nature use” department were: Prof. Ph.D. Georgi Puhalev (1997–2000), Associate Professor Angel Petkov (2000–2003), Prof. D.Sc. Ivan Yovkov (2003–2013) and Assoc. Dr. Katinka Mihova (2013–2019), and heads of the Department of Economics – Assoc. Dr. Nikolay Stoenchev (1997–2011), Prof. Dr. Ivanka Boneva ( 2011–2015), Prof. Dr. Ilko Penkov as temporary acting head of the department (2015), Prof. Dr. Nikolay Stoenchev (2015–2019).

In April 2019, by decision of the LTU Academic Council (No. 37/10.04.2019), three of the departments at FSU were restructured and the “Management and Alternative Tourism” department and the “Economics and Management of Resources and Nature Use” department were created “, which includes professors from the former Department of “Resource Management and Environmental Management” and professors from the former Department of “Economics”. As of May 2019, Prof. Dr. Elena Dragozova has been elected as the head of the newly created department “Economics and Management of Resources and Nature Use”.

On the basis of Order of the Rector of LTU No. RD-4160/05.06.2023 on the basis of Resolution No. 67 of the Council of Ministers of 03.05.2023 on the closure of FSU from 01.07.2023, the Department of “Forestry” is merged with the Department of ” Economics and Management of Resources and Nature Management” under a new name – Department of “Forestry Management and Management” of the Faculty of Forestry, with Associate Professor Dr. Maria Asenova appointed as the acting head of the department.
