Geodesy
The course includes theoretical and practical issues related to solving a number of tasks on plans and maps, as well as to the performing of different geodetic measurements, the preparation of plans and maps of small objects, the developing of projects over forest territorries etc.In this context, some questions are considered from the theory of errors referring to the geodetic measurements and calculations. The studied issues are in direct relation to the activities of the forestry engineers. Students learn to perform the necessary geodetic measurements and calculations related to their future work as engineers in the field of forest management, forest mensuration, forestry transport, erosion control and others. Furthermore, they acquire knowledge for competent and comprehensive use of geodetic plans and maps at work in the field of forestry, forest plantations, forest soil science, environmental protection, ie, in the overall organization and planning of forestry. Practical knowledge is obtained in the exercises and during the school practice. In the exercises course also occupations are provided related to key elements of technical drawing.
Lecturers:
- Assoc. Prof. PhD Radka Georgieva Koleva
- Prof. PhD Eng. Mariya Tzankova Asenova
- Chief Asist. Prof. PhD Milena Veselinova Danailova
- Assist. Prof. Eng. Stanimira Stoyanova Stoyanova
Geodesy and Vertical Planning
The subject is aggregate and includes two major sections – “General and Applied Geodesy” and “Vertical planning in landscape architecture.” Classes are held with the second and third courses (IV and V semesters) in “Landscape architecture” – 2 hours lectures and 2 hour of exercises. At the beginning of V semester a 5-day practice is conducted. The course in “General and Applied Geodesy” aims to introduce students to basic geodetic measurements and geodetic instruments used, the processing of results thereof and the work with topographic maps.In the section “Vertical planning in landscape architecture” all the basic theoretical and practical issues are taught in developing projects for vertical planning of green areas and the related engineering and architectural facilities in and outside settlements.
Lecturers:
- Prof. PhD Eng. Mariya Tzankova Asenova
- Chief Asist. Prof. PhD Milena Veselinova Danailova
Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Using geographic information systems is among the latest trends and directions of development of information technology. Year after year GIS are becoming more widely used in database management. Through them different types of tasks are solved in almost all areas: urban planning, social management, administration, public security, military management, energy, land division and land use, etc.. Their use in forestry is very useful and rational. The course provides the study of theoretical and practical issues associated with the creation of graphical and tabular data bases for forestry in a given GIS. Also many practical problems are solved through analysis of spatial data from the created data bases and outputs are created in the form of thematic forest maps.
Lecturers:
- Prof. PhD Eng. Mariya Tzankova Asenova
- Assist. Prof. Eng. Stanimira Stoyanova Stoyanova
Geoinformation technologies
GIS and Remote Sensing
Management of Protected Forests and Territories
The aim is to provide knowledge of the specific methods of planning and organization of protected forest territories with a view to their full use according to their functional designation: protective – water preserving, recreation, biodiversity conservation, scientific and other cognitive functions etc.
Lecturers:
- Assoc. Prof. PhD Ilko Antov Dobrichov
Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
The course includes some basic issues of photogrammetry, referring to the photogrammetric sortie, some photogrammetric instruments, analysis of the aerial photograph, photo interpretation and ortho rectification of photographs, means of measuring on single photographs and stereoscopic measurements. Students acquire also knowledge in remote sensing methods and tools for studying the Earth’s surface created at the present stage of development of science and technology, based on space technology. Issues are discussed associated with the inventory of forest resources and the determination of their status, with the assessment of quantitative and qualitative forest stand characteristics, with the mapping of the forest fund and solving a number of important environmental and forestry tasks. The exercises provide experience with advanced software for processing digital satellite images using actual satellite images of the territory of Bulgaria received from different satellites in view of their computer assisted landscape interpretation, automatic processing and computer classification.
