Laboratory of "Forest Cultures"
Head of the laboratory:
Prof. Dr. Nasko Iliev
Educational and research activity
The Forest Crops Laboratory provides educational and research activities in the field of forest seed production, forest nursery production and afforestation. The laboratory provides training, design, consulting, expertise, analysis, forecasting, project elaboration, programs.
Resources available to the laboratory for carrying out its activities:
Measuring equipment, germinators and cabinets, software products, etc.
Laboratory of Soil Science
Head of the laboratory:
Associate Professor Dr. Simeon Bogdanov
The Laboratory of Soil Science at the Faculty of Forestry is a teaching and research laboratory, created with the founding of the Higher Forestry Institute in 1953 by Prof. Angel Georgiev. Over the years, its leaders have been: Prof. Viktor Donov (1967–1993), Associate Professor Tsvetan Yordanov (1993–2016), Prof. Lyudmila Malinova (2016–2020), Associate Professor Simeon Bogdanov (since 2020 d.). In 1984 and 2007, the laboratory was completely renovated and equipped with modern equipment. It carries out physical, chemical and microbiological studies of the soil for scientific research purposes and conducts practical training for students and doctoral students.
The laboratory has equipment for determining the mechanical composition of the soil, pH, content of soil organic matter, carbonates and various chemical elements, amount and composition of the soil microflora, as well as a rich collection of minerals and rocks for conducting mineralogy and petrography classes.
The scientific-research and educational activity is aimed at studying the composition and properties of soils, their classification and distribution, analysis of the forest vegetation properties of the soil and assessment of soil fertility, determining the factors for soil degradation, designing measures for the protection and restoration of soil resources.
Laboratory of Microbiology
Head of the laboratory:
Assoc. Dr. Boyka Malcheva
The microbiological laboratory at FGS – UF is a teaching, diagnostic and research laboratory and is a specialized unit of the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Forestry.
Learning activity:
Diagnostic activity:
Microbiological and enzymatic tests of soils, waters, air, organic substrates, food and other products are carried out. Non-pathogenic and pathogenic microorganisms are isolated by applying complex microscopic, cultural and biochemical methods. The influence of pollutants on the biogenicity and enzymatic activity of the soil microflora is determined. Sanitary and microbiological control of the factors of the living environment is carried out.
