Radiology, as part of imaging methods, has a fundamental role in the diagnosis of animal diseases. In parallel with the advancement of technology, imaging in veterinary medicine has evolved. Recently, ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance have become increasingly widespread in veterinary imaging diagnostics, which in turn has led to the separation of imaging diagnostic methods of radiation and non-radiation. Last but not least is the issue of invasiveness by radiation imaging methods and measures to prevent ionizing radiation. In the lecture and practical course, students learn the physical basics of X-rays, methods of examination using them, normal X-ray anatomy and visualization of basic diseases in animals. The course also deals with the physical characteristics of ultrasonic waves and their clinical application in veterinary imaging. In addition to conventional radiography, the basic tomographic methods of diagnostics and the possibilities of computer reconstructive imaging are presented in the lecture and practical course. Imaging is a clinical discipline that provides future veterinarians with the required amount of theoretical and practical knowledge in veterinary imaging. The needs for specialized anesthesiology training in the various fields of veterinary medicine are the other prerequisites for making anesthesiology a separate discipline. This discipline will provide the necessary amount of theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of anesthesiology and emergency veterinary medicine. The purpose of the course in “Anesthesiology and Emergency Veterinary Medicine” is to acquaint the students with the basic anesthesiology tools and methods used in veterinary medicine. The lecture course is combined with practical exercises, including the use of anesthetics, examination of their systemic effects, possible complications and therapeutic approaches in their treatment. The course covers widely used anesthesiology practices, methods and tools in all domestic and small animals and some exotic species. By content, this course supports all clinical disciplines that require the use of anesthetic agents in diagnostic, therapeutic or surgical treatment approaches. Lecturers: Assoc. Prof. Nadya Zlatozareva Zlateva-Panajotova, PhD Chief Assistant Georgi Marinov Marinov, PhD, DVM Assoc. Prof. Konstantin Bogdanov Aminkov, PhD Assist. Prof. Seven Ruzhdi Mustafa, PhD Assist. Prof. Lilia Ventsislavova Petrova Herd Health Management It has been established that in manure-herd farming, traumatism is significantly higher compared to individual animal husbandry, with many animals subject to traumatism or suffering from one or more limb diseases. Along with infertility and mastitis, herd traumatism, hoof pathology, resp. lameness is one of the most pressing problems that cause huge economic losses. Initially, the main groups of diseases of the limbs and especially of the hooves are presented schematically. It describes in detail the methodology and the scale for assessing the health of the limbs, which is applied to each animal. The arithmetic means results represent the general health status of the herd. The ways, the sequence and the algorithm of the detection and establishment of the specific factors for each farm, leading to traumatism and diseases of the limbs and hooves, as well as the necessary steps to reduce the percentage of this type of pathology in the farm, are considered. Module of Obstetrics (diseases of small animals, diseases of equids, diseases of farm animals) The course in Obstetrics (Productive animals, Equines, Small animals) aims to give students the necessary knowledge of obstetric and gynecological problems in productive animals, quidae and animals for company. The course is divided into three sections: “Obstetrics and Gynecology of Productive Animals”, “Obstetrics and Gynecology of Equidae” and “Obstetrics and Gynecology of Animals for Company”. The section „Obstetrics and Gynecology of Productive Animals“ addresses questions about the processes of normal birth in animals, as well as possible problems that may occur. The various methods of obstetric assistent, the technique of implementation and the possible complications are discussed in depth. Attention is paid to the postpartum period and the diseases that can be diagnosed during it. Students are widely acquainted with gynecology in productive animals, the forms of infertility, the causes of it, and the treatment options available. The material includes a detailed examination of the physiology and pathology of the mammary gland. The aim is to provide students with the necessary theoretical and practical training in obstetrics and gynecology in productive animals. Increasing the level of reproduction in horses requires the proper and purposeful organization of the breeding process in this species of animal. In the section „Obstetrics and Gynecology of Equidae“, all functional disorders in horses that have a negative impact on the normal course of sexual activity are examined in depth and in clinical terms. Particular attention is paid to the physiology and pathology of the sexual cycle, the diagnosis of pregnancy, diseases during pregnancy, childbirth and obstetric care, diseases of the mammary gland, gynecological diseases and infertility in mares. In the last section, „Obstetrics and Gynecology of Animals for Company“, the issues of reproductive physiology and pathology in the dog and cat are mainly addressed. Attention is paid to vaginal cytology and the choice of the right time to insemination. Basic questions about the duration and course of pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period and their pathology are discussed. Lecturers: Assistant Prof. Tsveta Bogomilova Georgieva Assoc. Prof. Kalin Yordanov Hristov PhD, DVM Chief Assistant Prof. Aleksandar Aleksandrov Stoimenov, PhD Module of Surgery (diseases of small animals, diseases of equids, diseases of farm animals) Module Surgery is a combined scientifically applied discipline. In the lecture course, students are introduced to numerous surgical diseases in equines, productive and small animals. The study of individual diseases takes place by areas of the animal’s body, examining in detail the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical signs, methods of diagnosis, outcome of the disease, treatment and prophylaxis. Diseases of the hoof, which in veterinary surgery are devided into a separate sub-discipline (podology or orthopedics) with their subject and specific methods of research and treatment are studied. Special attention is paid to the specific etiopathogenesis, diagnosis, therapy, operative treatment and prevention of important hoof diseases. Diseases of the eyes and their ssupportive organs are studied, highlighting the importance of widespread, primary affecting eye diseases, as well as the role of secondary eye diseases and symptoms of other infectious and non-infectious disease processes. The purpose of the course in Surgery /Productive, Equines, Small animals/ is to provide students with knowledge of surgical principles and basic surgical skills in the treatment of surgical diseases in those animals. The lecture course is combined with practical clinical exercises on the study and surgical treatment of pets with surgical diseases. The content of the discipline is the surgical pathology of these animals. Lecturers: Assoc. Prof. Nadya Zlatozareva Zlateva-Panajotova, PhD Chief Assistant Georgi Marinov Marinov, PhD, DVM Assoc.
